What is Ribbon Magazine?

Ribbon Magazine is pop culture with a feminist twist! We are a publication that aims to amplify the voices, experiences, and aspirations of all female-identifying people, showcasing the diversity of the female experience* while celebrating girlhood through our vibrant content exploring pop culture and our reader's passions.

*This includes all female-identifying individuals or anyone who has experienced girlhood.

Why Start Ribbon?

I’m a writer. In my bones and in my soul, that’s what I’ve always been. As I’ve grown the stories I tell have grown with me. Things like representation have become vital. The communities I’m a part of matter so deeply to me. They impact the way I see the world.

But, the idea of Ribbon wasn’t just about me. Women in general are complex. We have different interests, facets, strengths. Depending on where we grew up, we notice different things. And being a young writer, there aren’t a lot of progressive and friendly environments for us to grow. For us to express ourselves, and feel that what we have to say is important.

For us to embrace all the wonderful and horrendous parts of girlhood in the same breath.

A place where we can have fun writing about celebrities and pop culture, while also speaking on the political issues that matter to us. A place where the mention of Taylor Swift won’t be booed but will result in meaningful conversations.

I want to create a space where all sides of girlhood are celebrated, and valued, and understood. A safe space for female-identifying* writers and readers alike to be entertained and educated and encouraged. I want the Year of Barbie to never end, and I want Ribbon to be its continuation.

So what do you say? Want to unravel girlhood together?

*This includes all female-identifying individuals or anyone who has experienced girlhood.

How can I join?

I want to love glitter and also stand up for the double standards that exist in our society. I want to wear pink and tell you how I feel about politics, and I don’t think those things have to cancel each other out.
